defray the cost of a wreath / stand at one grave.
There are over 80 veterans interred at Lisle Cemetery. They served in conflicts dating back to the War of 1812.
In 2019 the Lisle Heritage Society, in collaboration with Lisle VFW Post 5696, Downers Grove VFW Post 503 Auxiliary, Knights of Columbus St. Joan of Arc Council 15168, and Lisle Woman's Club, started the initiative to honor them with graveside Christmas wreaths.
Over 200 people commented on a Facebook post about the project, including veterans' families from Australia, California, Kansas, and Oklahoma.
